Submission Guidelines
How to submit an article to Troop 76's Newsletter
1. Decide what kind of article you would like to write. Any kind of article is welcome. You might want to write about a trip the troop has taken, a how-to article on some aspect of scouting, or an inspirational article.
2. Get the topic approved. E-mail the newsletter editor at tundra00@hotmail.com and suggest your article topic. If the article seems right for the next issue, he will e-mail you back to approve it, suggest changes, and offer advice. If the article is not right for the next issue, it might be right for a future issue, so don't get discouraged.
3. Write the article. The article should be between 200 and 500 words; it should be typed and on disk. Acceptable formats are: text or rich text (.txt or .rtf), Microsoft Word (.doc), or WordPerfect. Articles can be included in the text of e-mail messages. Handwritten articles make it harder on the newsletter staff, because they have to be re-typed.
4. Submit the article. You can submit the article by e-mailing it to the editor, either as an attachment or in the text of your e-mail. You may also give it to the editor at a troop meeting (preferably on disk). E-mailing it is the preferred method.
5. Work with the editor. Your article may need a little editing, so you should stay in touch with the editor in case anything needs to be clarified or changed. Sometimes articles have to be edited for space or held for later issues. If you have any photographs that go with your article, they can be scanned and e-mailed along with your article, or given to the editor at a troop meeting.
"The Spirit of 76" also accepts funny scout-related cartoons and stories. They can be scanned and e-mailed or given to the editor at troop meetings.
The more writers we have, the better the newsletter can be. Diverse stories (especially from scouts and alumni) make the newsletter more fun and interesting to read and can attract more contributors and more scouts to the troop.
